Energetic processes and nonthermal emission of starforming complexes
نویسنده
چکیده
We discuss models of energetic particle acceleration, interactions and nonthermal emission in active starforming regions at different stages of their evolution. Powerful stellar winds and supernova explosions with intense energy release in the form of strong shock waves can convert a sizeable part of the kinetic energy release into energetic particles. The starforming regions are argued as a favorable site of energetic particle acceleration and could be efficient sources of nonthermal emission.

Theory of non-thermal phenomena in thin plasma sources: galaxy clusters, galaxies and supernova remnants
We review current models of energetic particle acceleration and nonthermal emission from objects of very different scales from clusters of galaxies through massive galaxies to supernova remnants. The nonthermal phenomena in clusters and massive galaxies are considered in the context of the hierarchical model of cosmic structure formation by accretion and merging of the dark matter (DM) substruc...
متن کاملRadio Emission from Cool Stars
Recent developments in the study of radio emission from cool stars are reviewed. The eld of stellar radio astronomy would barely exist if active cool stars were similar to the Sun. However, many active stars appear to be fundamentally diierent from the Sun in that they possess a nonthermal corona which produces strong and steady radio emission. That is, in addition to the thermal populations at...
متن کاملClusters of Galaxies: magnetic fields and nonthermal emission
The nonthermal particle content of galaxy clusters should in part have a cosmological component generated during the early starburst phase of the member galaxies. This is reviewed in the framework of a simple cluster formation model suggested previously. It implies a nonthermal energy fraction of about 10 percent for the Intracluster gas. We also propose a mechanism for the early generation of ...
متن کاملGuiding the Way to Gamma-ray Sources: X-ray Studies of Supernova Remnants
Supernova remnants have long been suggested as a class of potential counterparts to unidentified γ-ray sources. The mechanisms by which such γ-rays can arise may include emission from a pulsar associated with a remnant, or a variety of processes associated with energetic particles accelerated by the SNR shock. Imaging and spectral observations in the X-ray band can be used to identify propertie...
متن کاملCMB Comptonization by Energetic Nonthermal Electrons in Clusters of Galaxies
Use of the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect as a precise cosmological probe necessitates a realistic assessment of all possible contributions to Comptonization of the cosmic microwave background in clusters of galaxies. We have calculated the additional intensity change due to various possible populations of energetic electrons that have been proposed in order to account for measurements of intracluste...
